29th Street Apartments

Washington, DC

29th Street Apartments, a four story, masonry framed, 27 unit garden style apartment complex in Southeast Washington, DC, sat partially demolished and deteriorating for several years. A total renovation construction project that met Washington, DC Green Communities requirements began in January 2010 and was completed in March 2011. All major contractors for this project hired residents of the local area as employees, thus this project created jobs as well as living space for residents of Washington, DC.

Designed by Wiencek + Associates, this project began in January 2010, just in time for the major snowstorms that year. This inclement weather caused a large delay for the exterior improvements as well as infrastructure and utilities. Also impacting the schedule were lead paint removal and major structural changes that were not anticipated. Construction could not start until the structural repairs were completed. The project was completed in March 2011, under budget.
